Long Days

She worked in the restaurant from 3am until 3pm. After hours meant caring for the boss’ children, that wasn’t on the clock. One month, 4000 baht. One month, one day off.

She worked as a housekeeper. She didn’t speak Thai. She didn’t speak English. She didn’t speak German. The duties were clear – care for the children, cook the food, wash the clothes, clean the house & don’t go outside. Or we’ll call. & when we fight – take the kids & ‘disappear’.

She worked on an orange farm. She made 60 baht a day (2 USD). 12+ hour days. She worked alongside her brother & father. The pesticides hurt, but not as much as her young body. She wouldn’t think of getting sick – her family needed the income.
